Florida Lord's Day #2

"O God, we bless thee, our Creator, Preserver, Benefactor, Teacher, for opening to us the volume of nature where we may read and consider they works. Thou hast this day spread before us the fuller pages of revelation, and in them we see what thou wouldest have us do, what thou requirest of us, what thou hast done for us, what thou hast promised to us, what thou hast given us in Jesus." (Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions)

Yesterday was our second visit to the church in Orlando. My wife road the 50 miles there with our friend who is interning at ECHO (see the end of my last entry). They had a time of excellent edifying conversation.

The sermon text was Romans 13:8-10. The paster was beginning a series on the topic of love. One very interesting question he asked was, "Is hate not compatible with love?" I thought to myself, "yes, they sound like opposites." He went on to explain that they are compatible. In God's love for us, there are some things that he must hate because of that love. God hates things that separate us from him. He sited Proverbs 6. I also thought about the study that I had done in the past on what does Scripture say that God loves and what does it say He hates, detests, or abhors. Some people say that God only hates sin. It is interesting to see what the Bible actually says.

After the service we had a great time of food and fellowship that extended into the evening WMF (Women's Missionary Fellowship) meal back at the church. It was quite gracious of a family to have all 10 of us over. They calculated that there were 21 children in the house (our hosts actually had several families over). This is a common practice for that congregation.

Today, my wife and I went to Space Shirts and got a great deal on some really cool shirts. They also have mission patches. KSC was sold out, but Space Shirts had the STS-124 patch and they are more affordable. How do you like the shirts? The baby will get to grow into wearing some of them. He got a shuttle sticker, so if you click on the picture you can see that his outfit says I like space shuttle. Which shirt is your favorite?

Also while the 5 oldest kids were at a local VBS, we were able to do make our last major visit to the grocery store during our time down here.
